Information in English
In the library you can find books and other media.
In the library you can glance through books and other media or consult the information desks. Inside the library the use of all media is free of charge. To lend media you need to subscribe. You have to pay only a small yearly amount to use all lending possibilities. The public library aims at an up to date and varied supply. Every day new books and other media for recreation or information, for study or profession, are added to the collection.
Books, newspapers, magazines, videotapes, cd's, cd-rom's, dvd-video's, Internet, sheet music and spoken books, it is all in your library.
Lending department
At the lending department for adults you find novels and storybooks, books in foreign languages, capital letter books and spoken books. At the study department you find informative books, video- and soundtapes and cd-rom's.
At the department Picture and Sound you find cd's in all styles: classical and modern orchestral music, chamber music, entertainment, jazz and pop music. There is also classical and popular sheet music. Furthermore you find videos and cd-rom games for all ages. There are also study books about film, music and theatre. The public library has language courses in different languages for beginners and advanced students. Ask for it at the information desk.
Youth department
The youth department is for children until the age of 14 years. Besides readers there are picture books, comics and spoken books. There also are children's films on videotape, informative books about all kind of subjects and youth books in foreign languages. Magazines can be read; they are not for lending.
Reading room
In the reading room you can read various newspapers and magazines. You will find national as well as regional newspapers, weekly's, family- and fashion magazines, hobby magazines and business publications and also several foreign newspapers and magazines.
The reference books in the reading room are very useful. There are encyclopaedias, dictionaries, address books, atlases, codes, official publications. In the reading room you also can have access to the World Wide Web. The charge is € 1 per 15 minutes. In the documentation files you find information about writers, books and all kind of subjects. You can refer to cd-rom's like public information, legislation and the Volkskrant. The use of those cd-rom's is free of charge; a print out costs you € 0,10 per page. You cannot borrow the media you find in the reading room; but you can make copies.
How to find what you are looking for?
All books and other media are in a certain sequence.Novels are arranged in alphabetical order by surname of the author. Informative media are arranged per subject; each subject has a number. You can refer to the computerfile to find out which media are in the library and how to find these media.
